Whew!
Whew! Finally time for a quick note! Since I posted last we had a wonderful visit with my in-laws. It went way too fast, of course. Immediately after they left (it seemed) we had Vacation Bible School which made for a busy week for us this week. We had to be done with dinner and to the church between 6:00 and 6:30 and didn't get home until 9:00 or later. It was exhausting because the hours we were there were just gogogo for all of us! But it was a very fun exhausting! We have a busy weekend planned (Arnel and Julia out all night tonight at a youth group lock-in at the recreation center of the local university, then tomorrow is softball practice for both of them and a surprise going-away party later, then after church Sunday is the annual pig roast. Next week should be a bit of a breather before the 4th of July, which is a big deal here, and and then we have more visitors arriving. After that Arnel and Julia (wow! They are spending a lot of time together this summer, that is great!) are off to Colorado for a few days, then return just in time for our 18th anniversary on the 18th of July! At this point I honestly think the rest of the summer will be pretty laid back. Baby is calling my name, gotta go...

Public Service Announcement
Speaking as the forty-year-old-mother-of-five-including-a-four-month-old-baby-who-even-as-a-young-person-has-always-required-at-least-eight-hours-of-sleep-to-function-somewhat-normally, let me just say that naps are underrated.
There are "experts" who will tell you that napping is bad for you, that it will mess up your sleep rhythms, or some such nonsense. Do not listen to them.
By the way, a nap with the baby is the very best kind.
Again, I repeat, do NOT listen to those "experts." Listen to me.

Our Summer Plans
My poor Laura has the worst sunburn I've ever seen. She spent the night at a friend's house, with a pool, Friday night and they spent all day Saturday in the pool. I sent sunblock for her but she though it said 8 hour protection, when, in fact, it said 80 minutes. So, she didn't reapply. Her cheek actually blistered and popped. It is now Monday and she is still red as a beet and cringes whenever someone moves as if they might touch her. Lots of aloe vera being used around here these days.
We are expecting our first family visitors in a week or so. Arnel's parents, grandmother, sister and two nieces will be coming for several days, and then one niece will be staying two more weeks with us. We are all very excited.
Next month, Arnel and Julia will be going back to Colorado for several days. The company he used to work for wants him back, at a nearby factory (not the same town where we used to live.) None of us want to move back but they want a chance to change his mind, so he is giving it to them and Julia is getting a free visit to her old friends in the process. They would normally fly out Arnel and I, but I have no need to go back and don't want to take a trip with or without Lillian at this point, so they are letting Julia, whose needs at her age would play a large part in any decision to move, fly out in my place.)
He will get back just in time for our anniversary...our 18th anniversary on July 18th!
Soon after that, we will get our second family visitors, when Arnel's other sister and her family visit!
Let's see...we also have Vacation Bible School coming up later this month. As always, it will be a family event for us. Arnel will be the Games leader and somehow or other I volunteered myself to lead the preschoolers. It will be fun as I will get to be Isaac's teacher. Laura and Gabe will both be attending, and Julia will be a crew leader, one of the people that supervises a group of children and leads them around from one station to another. Lillian, well I suppose she will spend most of the time in the sling watching the preschoolers. It actually should be a pretty easy VBS as we are doing just 2 hours a night for 4 nights...sometimes it can be as much as 3 hours a night for 5 nights.
Let's see what else...oh! I can't forget baseball! Just as Gabe finishes up his first baseball season, the church league will start soon. Arnel and Julia are both signed up to play. As they say in their publicity for these games, they really are more fun than anyone should be allowed to have. How many times have you been to a baseball game where the outfielder has to put down his burger to catch the fly ball?! We always have a great turnout and a couple from our church grills hamburgers and hot dogs and sells soda and chips for a very cheap price, and then after the game a lot of us traditionally go out for ice cream. The kids all go home filthy and exhausted, just the way they should be on a summer evening.

My first post of June
Biggest news is that we FINISHED THE SCHOOL YEAR today!! The kids are still going to be putting on a play as their final project, but since we have family visiting in a couple weeks (Arnel's parents, grandma, sister and two nieces,) they are going to wait and perform it then. Will this mean more scrapbooking time for Mom? If the new free time translates into the bigger kids entertaining Lillian it will, but she is getting more and more particular at her advanced age of four months old. We went out for Chinese food to celebrate tonight. It was fun but in the back of my mind a bit bittersweet as next year I will not be Julia's teacher. One of our nieces is less than a year older than Julia and may get to stay with us for a few weeks, which I hope pans out...it will be great fun!
The dentist appointments went swimmingly well. Lillian was a peach, with very little fussing, and Isaac behaved very well also. He got his first dental x-rays and first fluoride treatment. Julia had a couple "soft spots" that will get filled later this month (they always reassure me it is not a dental hygiene problem, but just the way her teeth are,) andthe rest of us checked out clean. And mine didn't even hurt as much as last time! Oh, and Gabe and Isaac played a trick on the dentist and hygenists. They have these really gross looking fake teeth that they put in when it was time for them to "open wide." Hilarious! We have a very friendly dentist's office...they always remember us, and I mean details, so I know they aren't faking...they remember stuff like what we said about where we live, homeschooling, etc. So this was great fun for us and them both.
I'm attaching pictures of Julia, Laura and Gabe in their costumes for the play...this is their baby and so I don't know too much detail, except that it has to do with the revolutionary war, they are all men, Julia is a Frenchman, and Laura is a slave. The first picture is Gabe in his fake teeth, but he didn't wear the glasses to the dentist.
