You Remember 60% of 2008 |
![]() Okay, you were somewhat paying attention during 2008. But you're not going to impress anyone with your knowledge of what went down. You know the basics about what went down, but little else... Let's just say you won't be writing the history book for 2008. |

You Feel Nurturing Toward Your Family |
![]() You like to persuade your family that you are right about things. You like to be the leader in your family. You feel like your family is prone to too many arguments and instability. You never feel like things can be completely peaceful. When times get difficult, you are able to be the adult in your family. You are able to keep your family together. You tend to be the rock in your family. You support everyone in their times of need, and they take your advice seriously. |

You Are Gold Lights |
![]() Your holidays are a time of abundance and riches. Even if you don't have a lot during the rest of the year, this is the time that you splurge a little. Your holidays traditions tend to be a bit old fashioned and dignified. You like old holiday movies, properly wrapped presents, and family recipes passed down over the years. |

Your Christmas is Modern |
![]() Your wish for the New Year is more happiness. For you, Christmas is a spiritual holiday. You can't separate it from your beliefs. You are patient when it comes to Christmas. You don't celebrate too early, and you don't like seeing holiday decorations in October. You like Christmas traditions, but you're not uptight about them. You do things your way. You like to celebrate Christmas your own way, and you don't like to have to compromise. You enjoy Christmas more than anyone you know. Some might call it an obsession! You give big during the holidays but nowhere near as much as you'd like to. |

Much as I loathe to go through it again, I suppose I must explain my last post.
So yesterday Laura had an orthodontist appointment at 2:40. We had an invitation to a Christmas open house that began at 4:30. Perfect opportunity to fit in a few errands while we were already up, dressed and out of the house, right? (Don't laugh. In my house that is a major undertaking and does not happen every day.)
Well, as these things tend to do, it got slightly more complicated. The time taken to complete said errands was a little longer than the time available. Or, in other words, it was after 4:00 and I was just approaching the checkout lane at Wally World, the first of my stops on the errand train. (Did I mention that we still needed to stop home, collect the rest of the family, prepare and eat a quick bite of dinner, all before heading to the party?)
Okay, back to Walmart. I find a great Christmas gift that I need to pick up for one of the kids that happens to be with me. Since I am about done I have Laura go ahead and take the two little ones to wait for me in the car. Well, deciding on the exact version of the gift took me a little longer than I'd hoped, I still had to go find bows and ribbon and as I mentioned, it is quickly approaching...well, late. But besides being rushed, please remember that I also now have three of my dearly beloved children now sitting in a car and hopefully huddling together to ward off frostbite.
So, that gives you a picture of my frame of mind as I approach the self-check-out lane. I am grabbing things out of the cart with my left hand, tossing them into my right as I scan and bag, all the while picking up the next item with my left. I'm telling you, I was poetry in motion! Right up until I whacked my left hand rather forcefully against the cart in my hurried frenzy. Nearly twenty-two years of habit caused me to take a peek at my wedding ring set after such a hard hit...but for the first time in twenty-two years...THE DIAMOND WAS GONE!
I am the type that tends to be nice and calm in a crisis, so my heart didn't really pound or threaten to jump out of my chest or whatever one might suppose would happen. But I'm pretty sure it did stop beating altogether. Down on my knees to look for the diamond. The computerized voice chastizes me to please put my item in the bagging area. Back up to put my item in the bagging area. Back down to look for the diamond. Perhaps it is a good thing that the floors aren't exactly sparkly clean because the diamond did stand out and I found it in a matter of maybe five or ten seconds.
Now I am faced with a dilemna. Still running late. Still have precious children waiting in the cold car. In the middle of checking out. And holding a loose diamond in my hand. Now it is not the largest diamond, but it isn't a little chip either. And it is MY diamond! But size and emotional attachment aside, I'm pretty sure it is the most financially valuable thing I own other than my home and cars...and I don't actually own the house and I'm not too sure about the value of the cars actually! So without really thinking I popped it in my mouth and held it on my tongue. Pockets just didn't feel safe enough. Say what you will but until you are in the situation... Honestly I didn't even think about it first, I just did it.
I proceeded to complete checking out and was in the car before it dawned on me that I was carrying something in my mouth that had been in the floor of Walmart. My tongue still feels kinda funny.
However, what was done was done. I continued on to the video store, returned a video and selected a new one, checked out...diamond still in place. On to the library, picked up my items on hold, chatted with the librarian, diamond still in place.
About halfway home from the library I think my heart started beating again.

Later when I'm not so tired and when I've recovered from the shock, I will tell you why I picked something up off the floor of Walmart today and carried it around in my mouth for half an hour. For now...

Your Snow Test Says You're Independent |
![]() You feel like something good will happen to you in the next few months. You don't really like to work, unless work feels like play. You only are successful when you are doing what you love. You are an independent, individualistic person. You thrive when you're doing your own thing. Your biggest worry in life is your family. You stay up at night thinking about them. When it comes time to relax, you always go the extra mile. You take relaxing as seriously as anything else in life. |

Can I just say my kids make me laugh. I mean, they are seriously funny people. Even when they don't mean to be. A couple examples from the last couple of days...
Lillian saying her bedtime prayers: "God, thank you for this wonderful day and I hope you have a good Christmas. Amen."
Here's one from Isaac. Last night we wound up driving home from the church Christmas play (which was AMAZING and I am going to try and figure out how to upload a clip soon!) in three separate cars...Arnel and Gabe in one car, Julia and her boyfriend Pablo in another car, and then the rest of the kids with me. Julia and Pablo left first while the rest of us were still chatting. At one point Arnel joked "We need to get going. Julia and Pablo are going to get there and be alone in the house." I was telling the other kids about that on the drive home and Isaac responds with "Oh, great. They are going to watch every movie we own!" Yeah, buddy, that is exactly what we were worried about. ~grin~ I hope he continues to think that way for a long time yet.
